Update notes
What changed in Pixel Jump, newest first.
Freeplay
· version 1.39.0
- CO-OP is now MULTIPLAYER, with two ways to play. FREEPLAY's QUICK PLAY drops you into a public lobby of up to 8 on today's layout; CO-OP is the party play you know.
- In Freeplay everyone climbs their own world and sees the others pass, see-through, with their names, Pixels and cosmetics. Nobody collides with anyone.
- A bar on the right edge shows how high everyone in the lobby is, arrows point to players just off screen, and a short feed says who fell, reached a biome, beat a boss or set a new best.
- Freeplay runs count as daily runs: best height, gems, the Streak and the Online leaderboard. Out of hearts, a new run starts at 0m three seconds later in the same lobby.
- No chat; names are filtered. If Freeplay fills up for the day, co-op still works.
Run perks and racing #1
· version 1.38.0
- After every boss you beat, pick one of two run perks for the rest of the run: speed, jump, a magnet, 5 HEARTS, NINJA walls and more. The stronger the perk, the rarer it comes up. Solo runs pause while you choose; you have five seconds.
- Race today's #1: when the day's best climb has a Ghost, RACE TODAY'S #1 on the menu (or RACE #1 in Records) plays today's layout with their Ghost climbing beside you, name and all.
- Climbs that make the Online leaderboard now keep their Ghost so others can race them.
Streaks, rewards and style
· version 1.37.0
- A daily Streak: climb 100m on a new day to keep it going. Day 1 pays 10 gems, then 200, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 5,000, and every day after that pays 5,000 while it lasts.
- About thirty achievements, each paying gems once: reach each biome, beat bosses, own Pixels, finish runs, keep a Streak, play co-op. Achievements you already had pay out once now.
- Cosmetics on a new STYLE tab in the shop: a trail, a landing burst, a death effect and a boss-kill effect, one of each on any Pixel. Your party sees yours in co-op.
- Music: a chiptune loop for every biome, with its own MUSIC slider in Settings.
- Gamepads work (stick or D-pad to move, A to jump, Start to pause), phones can vibrate on hits, and the menu shows what your next run starts with and your first Pixel to aim for.
- Prices re-tuned for the faster climb: Overclock 120,000, hearts 150, Rentals 500 to 6,000.
- Anonymous stats and error reports help find bugs; switch them off in Settings.
The climb
· version 1.36.0
- The biomes come sooner: the Ionosphere at 500m, Low Orbit at 1,500m, Deep Space at 2,500m, The Rift at 4,000m, Neon Grid at 5,500m, Static Field at 7,500m and The Void at 10,000m.
- The climb tightens as you go: platforms get narrower and a little further apart, but every one is always within a plain jump of the one below.
- Each biome has its own hazards, with a lighter dose of one from before: ice in the Ionosphere, black holes and conveyor belts in The Rift, lasers and blinking platforms in Neon Grid, shock and shrinking platforms in Static Field. The Void has everything.
- Meteors fall slower and a red marker at the top of the screen shows where each will come in. Laser drones warn you for longer.
- Gravity pulses and the control glitch are gone. SHIELDED now covers ice and the pull of black holes.
- Bosses learn as you beat them: the second sweeps a laser, the third calls in drones, and from the fourth they break the platform you stand on.
Fair climbs
· version 1.35.0
- The game now runs at the same speed on every screen: your jump is exactly as high on a 30Hz Chromebook as on a 144Hz monitor, and movement is still smooth at any refresh rate.
- Power-ups are rarer: 12% of platforms near the ground, thinning to 1% by 15,000m. The Rocket still flies early on, but other Pixels catch it higher up.
- Level layouts use a better random generator, so today's layout (and your ghost) is new.
- Records has an Online leaderboard of today's top three climbs, each with the Pixel that climbed it, and a Personal leaderboard of your own best three.
- Very fast climbs (up to 100 m/s) can go on the board now; if one is ever refused, the run card says why.
Steadier hearts
· version 1.34.1
- The heart counter no longer jiggles every time you switch Pixels on the menu: it only moves when the number of hearts you have changes.
A fresh look
· version 1.34.0
- Every screen outside the shop has been redesigned: glass cards, softer buttons and dialogs that rise into place.
- On the menu your Pixel stands on a glowing platform, in its own colour, with the arrows either side. Your best height is in gold.
- During a run your gems and hearts sit in small pills, and on phones notices no longer cover the power-up bar.
- Settings uses switches, and the end-of-run card leads with your height. A new best turns it gold.
- Co-op is one card: your name, join a friend's code, or HOST A PARTY.
Tier on its own line
· version 1.33.1
- A Pixel's tier tag now sits on its own line above its perks in the menu picker and the buy dialog.
A new shop
· version 1.33.0
- The shop has three tabs along the bottom: RENT, PIXELS and BOOSTERS.
- PIXELS shows one Pixel at a time, big, with every perk spelled out. Flip through with the arrows or the strip below, or switch to LIST to see them all, grouped by tier, with how many gems each still needs.
- The Pixel of the Hour is now the Rental, on the RENT tab, with the time left in its hour.
- BOOSTERS has hearts for your next run, shown as a row with your free heart already filled, and 2X GEMS where ads are offered.
- Hearts bought for a Pixel that holds more (like Bulwark) are no longer lost when you switch to one that holds fewer: the extra are refunded as gems when your run starts. Four bought hearts also survive a reload now.
- On the menu, the arrows beside your Pixel step through the Pixels you own.
- Overclock's MYTHIC tag shimmers.
Shop Pixels, honest scores, co-op EMP
· version 1.32.0
- Pixels now come only from the gem shop and the hourly Pixel. The Pixels you unlocked by height, including the secret ones and The Rift start, are gone; if you had one equipped you are back on Unit 734.
- Every Pixel can hold jump to jump again on landing. Cherry Cola and Midnight Oil, which had HOLD JUMP, now have POWER x2.
- Your score is your height, with no bonuses, and your best height is your one record. The SCORE x2 perk and the boss's bonus meters are gone.
- Beating a boss pays 300 gems, doubled by GEMS x2 and by 2X GEMS (four times with both). In co-op everyone gets their own.
- Overclock is the first Mythic Pixel, with MAGNET in place of SCORE x2.
- The EMP perk works in co-op and clears drones for the whole party.
- Every boss stomp bounces you up. After a hit the boss holds still, then climbs away, and it can't hurt you while it flashes.
Safer saves, easier taps
· version 1.31.3
- A damaged or hand-edited save can no longer hand you extra hearts or absurd heights and gem counts.
- PLAY AGAIN, MENU and SHARE RUN on the run card are now full-size touch targets on a phone.
Downloaded copies always update
· version 1.31.2
- Automatic updates in the downloaded copy can no longer be turned off. Settings still has CHECK FOR UPDATES to check right away.
Confirm before buying a Pixel
· version 1.31.1
- Tapping a Pixel you can afford in the picker now asks you to confirm the purchase first, showing its price and the gems you will have left.
Hearts, perks and a new Pixel picker
· version 1.31.0
- Every run now starts with one free heart, plus any hearts you bought for it (100 gems each). Leftover hearts are gone when the run ends, and how many a run can hold depends on your Pixel.
- Power-ups are common at the start of a climb, easing down to a steady 7% from 5,000m. SHIELD START is gone; the Pixels that had it got new perks.
- New perks: 5 HEARTS, HOLD JUMP, SMASH, NINJA and ROCKET. Some perks have downsides, shown as red tags. Three new Legendary Pixels in the shop: Ninja, Rocket and Bulwark.
- The height Pixels each gained a perk, and every Pixel now has a tier: Uncommon, Rare, Epic or Legendary. The Pixel of the Hour costs gems by tier.
- One Pixel picker with ALL, OWNED, SHOP and HOUR tabs replaces the old carousels.
- Unlocking a Pixel is a NEW PIXEL moment instead of an achievement. Achievements have exact wording and progress bars, and fold away inside Records.
- The PIXEL JUMP title is white with a slowly shifting rainbow glow.
Save backup and version number
· version 1.30.0
- Settings now shows the game version, and SAVE DATA lets you copy a save code or restore one, so progress moves between devices and to the downloaded copy.
- Leaderboard names are checked more carefully for rude words run together.
Boss stomps bounce like springs
· version 1.29.1
- Landing on top of a boss now launches you like a yellow spring platform every time, with the spring sound, a squash and a fresh double jump, even when it lands during the boss's hit flash.
Downloaded copies update themselves
· version 1.29.0
- The downloaded single-file copy now fetches a newer version in the background, checks that it was signed by the developer, and starts it the next time you open the file. Your saves carry over.
- If an update fails to start, the copy falls back to the version inside the file.
Same game, clearer notes
· version 1.28.4
- No gameplay changes: this release only rewrites internal notes and documentation, so the downloaded single-file copy matches the current build.
Co-op and save hardening
· version 1.28.3
- In co-op, the leader now only counts a teammate's stomp or kill when that teammate is actually near the target.
- A save-transfer link only restores a save when it comes from the old site.
Smoother saves and fewer glitches
· version 1.28.2
- Fixed: a run that ended during the death animation could make the next run end by itself.
- Fixed: in co-op, a teammate who came back after a pause no longer loses their run when the leader starts a new round without them.
- Your best height and score are saved a little less often while you climb, which keeps busy moments smooth.
The portable page is for downloading
· version 1.28.1
- The portable page no longer offers a play-in-browser link. Play the full game at pixeljump.online, and keep the portable page for the single-file download.
Locked save backup codes
· version 1.27.0
- The portable copy now locks BACK UP SAVE codes to Pixel Jump. An edited or damaged code no longer restores, and codes made before this version cannot be restored.
Co-op from the downloaded game
· version 1.26.2
- The downloaded single-file game can now use the co-op relay too, so parties work on school and office networks even when the game is opened straight from disk.
- The co-op menu says when the relay is unavailable, so a blocked join on a strict network makes sense.
The portable download saves
· version 1.26.1
- Fixed: the DOWNLOAD button on the portable page now saves pixel-jump-portable.html to your downloads instead of opening the game in a tab.
A portable copy that updates itself
· version 1.26.0
- New: Pixel Jump is available as one HTML file at pixeljump.online/portable/. It opens from any folder, with no install and no ads, and keeps co-op, Records and your saves.
- A downloaded copy now checks for a newer version about once a day and shows UPDATE on the menu when one exists.
- New in the portable copy: BACK UP SAVE and RESTORE SAVE in Settings, so replacing the file keeps your best height, gems, Pixels and records.
A boss you can work up to
· version 1.25.0
- The first boss of a run takes 3 hits, the next 5, then 7, and from the fourth on 10.
Ice in the Ionosphere
· version 1.24.0
- The wind is gone. From the Ionosphere (600m) up, platforms are icy instead: your Pixel slides after it lands and is slow to stop or turn until it jumps. Steering in the air is unchanged.
- Pixels with the SHIELDED perk keep their grip on ice.
A guide to the game
· version 1.23.1
- New: a guide with a page for each part of the game (biomes, Pixels, power-ups, the boss, co-op and tips), and these update notes.
- Fixed: after opening About or Privacy from the installed app, playing offline could show that page instead of the game.
Today's top 10
· version 1.23.0
- A daily leaderboard: the ten highest solo climbs on the day's layout. A run that makes the board asks for a name on the run card, and Records shows the board.
Android: play in the browser
· version 1.22.0
- On Android, installing the game is now a suggestion. PLAY IN BROWSER closes the card for a week, and INSTALL APP on the menu brings it back.
- The game asks for full screen when you start a run in an Android browser.
Smoother on every screen
· version 1.21.3
- The scenery behind the game is drawn a new way and no longer stutters. Slow devices get a simpler backdrop by themselves.
- The game as it was before this round of changes stays playable at old.pixeljump.online, with its own separate save.
New menus
· version 1.21.0
- Every menu has been redrawn in one style, with drawn icons in place of emoji.
- Picking up a power-up while one is running now gives you a different one.
- A banner crosses the screen when you enter a new biome.
The menu is the first screen
· version 1.20.0
- The scene behind the menu is the real start of your next run. Pressing start carries straight on from it.
A livelier early game
· version 1.19.0
- New platforms: springs, crumbling platforms, and sliding platforms from 150m.
- Trails of small gems arc between platforms.
- Heights are called out as you pass them, and a picture tutorial shows the controls.
- Hearts can be found in the level whenever you have fewer than three.
A scene for every biome
· version 1.18.0
- Each of the eight biomes has its own sky and scenery, the platforms have designs, and the backdrop fills the whole window.
Game feel
· version 1.17.0
- Your Pixel squashes, stretches and blinks. Landings kick up dust, pickups pop, and big hits shake the screen. Reduced Motion turns it down.
Pixel of the Hour
· version 1.16.0
- Twenty-four patterned Pixels, one on offer each hour.
About and privacy pages
· version 1.14.2
- A how-to-play page and a privacy policy, linked from the menu.
Slow-motion falls
· version 1.13.0
- A fall ends in a slow-motion shatter.
- Co-op shows the TEAM LIMIT line the leader can't climb past.
- Platforms and Pixels have rounded corners.
Touch controls in one bar
· version 1.12.0
- The touch buttons sit in a single bar along the bottom.
- Fixed on iPhone: the page no longer scrolls during play, and left no longer sticks.
A new home: pixeljump.online
· version 1.11.0
- The game moved to pixeljump.online, and saves from the old address are carried across.
- Co-op uses a relay server when a direct connection is blocked, so parties work on school and office networks.
Full-screen phones
· version 1.9.0
- Phones play full screen under a slim score strip, and tall screens show more sky.
- Platforms are a little further apart.
Hearts and biome gems
· version 1.8.0
- Extra lives became hearts, bought in the shop and banked between runs.
- Gems are worth more in every higher biome.
- The ghost replays your previous run of the day.
- New jump and death sounds.
